Alfabus, electric buses and fire protection

Alfabus, electric buses and fire protection

The Alfabus company was founded in China in 1999 and focuses its activities on the design and production of electric buses, a technology that respects the environment and health.
Alfabus Europe, based in Olgiate Comasco (CO), was founded with the aim of adapting the electric buses of the Asian manufacturer to the standards required by the European market, through a work of re-engineering.
The SAS CU_mz fire detection and extinguishing System by Domino Technology was chosen and installed in the first Alfabus Europa buses, as the beginning of a long collaboration.
SAS CU_mz is able to detect a fire through a couple of sensors and activate the extinguishing using aerosol generators, designed specifically for electric vehicles.
The new DOMINO multi-zone system is able to detect and extinguish a fire up to a maximum of 4 independent zones.

The fire detection and extinguishing system SAS CU_MZ of Domino Technology protects up to 4 distinct zones

HOW IT WORKS

The central unit is connected to two sensors, who detect the fire with the logic of double consent.

Pre-alarm is signaled by the first sensor and once confirmed by the second, the signal reaches the control unit that activates the discharge of aerosol dispensers.

APPLICATIONS

The SAS CU_MZ system can be applied in wind turbine, to protect:

|  TECHNICAL PLACES

|  PROCESSOR

|  ELECTRICAL CABINETS

|  ENTIRE NACELLE

The progress of the Irizar group and the collaboration with Domino Technology

The progress of the Irizar group and the collaboration with Domino Technology

The Fire detection and extinguishing System (SAS) of Domino Technology, is able to detect a fire through a couple of sensor and activate the extinguishing using aerosol generators.

It is possible to create more detection and extinguishing system independent of each other, up to a maximum of 4 zones.

Our SAS System has been installed on the Irizar ie-Truck, the new electric truck of Irizar Group.

This innovative electric truck is part of the range of zero emission products, and responds to several market needs and allows to circulate in cities and urban environments without creating any atmosphere or acoustic pollution.

It’s equipped with the latest technology in active safety.

  • Lane changes (LDWS) can be detected because of the built in camera and front radar sensors.
  • The drivers is alerted if the vehicle swerves unintentionality.

It’s equipped with an emergency assisted braking (AEBS) which activates the emergency brake if the vehicle gets too close to the vehicle in front of and the driver doesn’t react in time.

Their particular attention in the field of safety, has made possible the installation of the Fire detection and extinguishing System (SAS), momentarily present in two demos, but that will go standard in all their ie-Truck.

eROAD ARLANDA -Between safety, saving and innovation-

eROAD ARLANDA -Between safety, saving and innovation-

It is clear the change of direction for the production and trade of electric and hybrid vehicles in Europe and other countries.

On April 11, 2018 was inaugurated the Arlanda eRoad, the first stretch of road in Sweden that can recharge electric vehicle during their transit.

HOW IT WORKS

The project is based on two tracks, which hang up a movable arm installed below the vehicle that needs to recharged and that, through the contact, transfers the energy.

If the vehicle changes the lanes, the movable arm is disconnected.

It is divided into sections long 50 meters, each of which is powered only when a vehicle is above it. The system it is able to monitor the amount of energy supplied to the vehicle and recognized it. The cost of refuelling is then charged directly to the account of the vehicle owner.

This stretch of road currently covers an area of about 2 km and, for now, it is a test phase to understand the potential.

The inauguration of the road was performed by a diesel truck that was transformed into an electric truck of the Swedish company PostNord, the aim is to extend its use to all electric vehicle on such technology is extended to other roads and highways.

The cost of electrifying a highway with this technology amounts to about 1 million euros for kilometre, while safety is guaranteed because the energy is not on the surface but at about 5-6 cm below the road surface.

By combining the road charges and the autonomy of each car, the vehicles should always have the charge.

AIM:TO REDUCE ENERGY CONSUMPTION AND CARBON EMISSIONS.

RENEWABLE ENERGY

A CONSTANT GROWTH TOWARDS A SAFE AND EFFECTIVE IMPROVEMENT

In 2014 wind power covered 8% of the electricity demand of Europe.

Wind energy can be converted into mechanical energy or electricity, thanks to wind farms.

Wind exploitation is implemented by means of wind machines divisible into 2 distinct groups according to:

– Type of basic module used: generators with horizontal or vertical axis.

– Energy production: large turbines and small wind turbines.

– Place of installation: at sea, on land, in buildings.

Wind power plants exploit the kinetic energy of the wind to generate mechanical energy which, thanks to wind turbines, is transformed into electricity.

ADVANTAGES
– NO EMISSION OF POLLUTANTS DURING ENERGY PRODUCTION
– THE SALE PRICE OF THE ENERGY PRODUCED IS VERY COMPETITIVE COMPARED TO OTHER RENEWABLE ENERGY

The risk of fire in wind farms is higher than previously thought. When this happens, we find ourselves in a remote, windy place and at a high altitude. The main causes of fire are: overheating of generators or electrical materials, short circuits, overloads and lightning. It is therefore important to prevent and act as soon as possible thanks to / by means of a detection and extinction system capable of intervening promptly, minimizing possible damage.

BUT HOW DOES DOMINO CONSULTING OPERATE or  WORK IN A SUCH IMPORTANT NEED?

Aerosol extinguishers offer a unique method of extinguishing fires by dispersing condensed particles of potassium carbonate and inert gases.

Aerosol (GA) generators use a solid mixture of potassium and nitrogen salts, called “compound”, as extinguishing agent.

The extinction occurs through a dispersion, following activation, of the extinguishing mass which, by triggering a catalysis, transforms the compound (solid state) into aerosol (gaseous state).

THE AEROSOL GENERATORS GUARANTEE NOT TO VERIFY HAZARDOUS FIRE RESTART.

The Flambus phenomenon

The Flambus phenomenon

The “Flambus” phenomenon emergency is now very well known.

According to various data, the last three years have seen 67 vehicles on fire, of which 21 only in 2018.

But if today it all seems very clear, why does this phenomenon have no end?

The main questions to which we would like to give an answer again are two:

  1. How a fire comes to life ?
  2. How this can be interrupted?

HOW IS THE FIRE CREATED?

In most cases, the fire arises due to fatty substances and oil residues which, over time, tend to create crusts of easily flammable material.

It is true that the heat produced by the combustion of the engine causes the engine body to reach 95 ° C and the exhaust pipes up to 600 °C; this means that the percentage of probability that a fire triggers is very high, especially if you add the poorly ventilated engine compartment and a high external temperature.

Two other fundamental elements concern:

  1. the wear of these means of transport
  2. poor maintenance – which does not allow to identify and therefore brake any faults and malfunctions on the vehicle.

It almost seems that the “maintenance” factor has now been placed in second place, at the time of the purchase of a heavy vehicle, without precisely taking into account the service that the vehicle must necessarily undergo during its entire activity.

WHAT ACTION CAN BE TAKEN?

Clearly the main objective is the safety of all passengers, road traffic, and environmental impact.

An efficient detection and extinction system aims to protect the vehicle and its passengers from the fire.

The fire system must be:

– EFFICIENT AND EFFECTIVE

– ECOFRIENDLY

– QUICK DETECTION AND PREVENTIVE

– SIMPLE MAINTENANCE

– 24\7 SYSTEM MONITORING

– ACOUSTIC AND VISUAL ALARM REPORT

Thus acting we would have a reliable security system and therefore the possibility of informing the driver and passengers of the occurrence of the event, signaling the reference zone, and intervening in the initial phase of the phenomenon.
