eROAD ARLANDA -Between safety, saving and innovation-

It is clear the change of direction for the production and trade of electric and hybrid vehicles in Europe and other countries.

On April 11, 2018 was inaugurated the Arlanda eRoad, the first stretch of road in Sweden that can recharge electric vehicle during their transit.

HOW IT WORKS

The project is based on two tracks, which hang up a movable arm installed below the vehicle that needs to recharged and that, through the contact, transfers the energy.

If the vehicle changes the lanes, the movable arm is disconnected.

It is divided into sections long 50 meters, each of which is powered only when a vehicle is above it. The system it is able to monitor the amount of energy supplied to the vehicle and recognized it. The cost of refuelling is then charged directly to the account of the vehicle owner.

This stretch of road currently covers an area of about 2 km and, for now, it is a test phase to understand the potential.

The inauguration of the road was performed by a diesel truck that was transformed into an electric truck of the Swedish company PostNord, the aim is to extend its use to all electric vehicle on such technology is extended to other roads and highways.

The cost of electrifying a highway with this technology amounts to about 1 million euros for kilometre, while safety is guaranteed because the energy is not on the surface but at about 5-6 cm below the road surface.

By combining the road charges and the autonomy of each car, the vehicles should always have the charge.

AIM:TO REDUCE ENERGY CONSUMPTION AND CARBON EMISSIONS.

Fire prevention in public transport: from planning to operation

Fire prevention in public transport: from planning to operation

DOMINO TECHNOLOGY, official sponsor of  event organized by ASSTRA (national association of companies that manage local public transport in Italy), held on 28 March 2019 at the ACI headquarters, presented the new fire detection and extinguishing system for buses.

Fire prevention in public transport is now a clear and consolidated topic, which requires special attention, especially for the complexity that it has.

The analysis of the fires that took place over the last few years was fundamental on this day and the predisposition to collaboration between constructors and TPL companies was essential to minimize the risk of fires on buses.

During the day the topic were:

– Timely detection

– Fire extinguishing for hybrid and electric buses

– Zero maintenance

An interesting comparison to protect our bus fleets and above all those who use them.

The Flambus phenomenon

The Flambus phenomenon

The “Flambus” phenomenon emergency is now very well known.

According to various data, the last three years have seen 67 vehicles on fire, of which 21 only in 2018.

But if today it all seems very clear, why does this phenomenon have no end?

The main questions to which we would like to give an answer again are two:

  1. How a fire comes to life ?
  2. How this can be interrupted?

HOW IS THE FIRE CREATED?

In most cases, the fire arises due to fatty substances and oil residues which, over time, tend to create crusts of easily flammable material.

It is true that the heat produced by the combustion of the engine causes the engine body to reach 95 ° C and the exhaust pipes up to 600 °C; this means that the percentage of probability that a fire triggers is very high, especially if you add the poorly ventilated engine compartment and a high external temperature.

Two other fundamental elements concern:

  1. the wear of these means of transport
  2. poor maintenance – which does not allow to identify and therefore brake any faults and malfunctions on the vehicle.

It almost seems that the “maintenance” factor has now been placed in second place, at the time of the purchase of a heavy vehicle, without precisely taking into account the service that the vehicle must necessarily undergo during its entire activity.

WHAT ACTION CAN BE TAKEN?

Clearly the main objective is the safety of all passengers, road traffic, and environmental impact.

An efficient detection and extinction system aims to protect the vehicle and its passengers from the fire.

The fire system must be:

– EFFICIENT AND EFFECTIVE

– ECOFRIENDLY

– QUICK DETECTION AND PREVENTIVE

– SIMPLE MAINTENANCE

– 24\7 SYSTEM MONITORING

– ACOUSTIC AND VISUAL ALARM REPORT

Thus acting we would have a reliable security system and therefore the possibility of informing the driver and passengers of the occurrence of the event, signaling the reference zone, and intervening in the initial phase of the phenomenon.

Smoke detection in false ceilings: TWINSET Case Study

Smoke detection in false ceilings: TWINSET Case Study

CASE STUDY

 SMOKE DETECTION IN FALSE CEILINGS

Incollaboration with A2A

Aim:

Provide the layout of the fire detection system in the environment and in a false ceiling.

Location:

Smart Office A2A, Milano

Planning Phase:

The environment in question foresaw the presence of portions of wood ceiling of particular value. To respond to the client’s need, it was therefore necessary to choose a solution that had a low impact on the aesthetics. It was therefore requested not to provide for the installation of inspection hatches necessary, however, during maintenance, to reach the false ceiling detectors. Thanks to the choice of TwinSet it was possible to meet all these needs.

Installation

In correspondence to the detector and according to the design indications, a hole of only 14cm in diameter was made in the ceiling (compared to a classic 45 x 45cm hatch). This is sufficient to install the base of TwinSet that allows, through a threaded rod, to connect the detector in the room with the false ceiling.

When the installation is complete, only the detector in the room and the return mirror of the alarm signal for the false ceiling detector are visible.

Final Result

Thanks to TwinSet, it was possible to meet both the aesthetic requirements of the rooms and the practical design of the fire detection system. Not only the false ceiling detectors are easily reachable without having to foresee the opening of unaesthetic trap doors, but regular maintenance interventions are thus easier and less invasive.
